Optimizing Images | | | | The first thing concerning optimizing images that we are going to talk about is the file names. Avoid using any unnecessary and uninformative words such as 'and', 'thus', 'or' and so on because they makes your content longer and complicated and make the reader lose interest. Make file names as clear and short as possible. I'll give you an example. In case you need to tell people 'We offer cozy rooms which cost nothing at all', you'd better make your caption sounds like 'low-cost comfy rooms on offer'. Always have in mind that people overlook detailed data. Make your speech informal so that you will make people feel like your friends. Use your own impressions and experiences and try to think of keywords that usually grab your attention. Putting into practice all your previous experience as an Internet consumer is probably the easiest and the most effective way to optimize images.
| | | The second thing that you need to consider is the ALT attribute. ALT attribute is an alternate text, which you usually see in case certain image cannot be shown. The ALT attribute is very important because it explains the surfer what the image is even when it is not possible to display it. Keep in mind that the ALT attribute has to be short and simple giving no unnecessary details. The ALT attribute is also shown when the user pass over the image with his mouse.
The ALT attribute is very helpful especially to people who are suffering from some type of sight affliction for example blind, semi-blind, color-blind or short (long)-sighted people. These people are not capable to see the image well but if you offer them ALT attribute of good quality it will help them a lot in understanding what the image is all about.
Even people with no sight problems may encounter some problems with seeing your images. The problems usually come from the different types of Web browsers that surfers use. Nowadays many different Web browsers are available and they offer different capacity and show different results. Some browsers may fail to show images, others show restricted number of images and there are even browsers that show no images at all. When it comes to problems with the browsers the only chance to optimize images is to use ALT attributes.
In order to make more people visit your site you need to have it listed at the front positions of the search results. Optimizing images is a simple way to achieve this. Moreover, some web pages won't be listed at all in case you have not put ALT attributes.
Certainly, there are some very important things that you need to have in mind while preparing the ALT attributes for optimizing your images. Make sure the ALT attribute is describing the image in the best possible way. If your image is simply a decorated text use the same text as an ALT attribute. On the other hand, in case the image is a list with its bulleting you'd better choose an empty Alt attribute.
However, make sure you do not use too many keywords. Two or three keywords are enough when optimizing images by putting ALT attributes. As well, if you need to do any misspelling to describe the product or the company you are free to do it as long as you do not go too far. You can use plural forms in an alternate text as well.
Optimizing images is usually an easy task. That is why some people tend to fill all the space of their web site with images. This is not a preferable option. Make sure you have used images rationally.
